Igarka – a town beyond the Arctic Circle, where Roberts, Andrejs, Nadežda, Anatolijs, and Inta were born in the 1950s. Their parents had been exiled there as children in 1941. Some managed to return to Latvia in 1956, others later. Nadja returned to Latvia with her little daughter only in 1993; her mother remained in the eternal frost. Anatolijs Taurenis did not return; Nadežda went to Igarka and found him. Inta's son went to his grandmother's place of exile because he wants to publish a book. The stories of the children of Igarka are varied. They do not want to talk about their childhood; the memories of their parents and grandparents are painful. They survived, and that is the main thing. Nadja calls her classmates in Russia every day. Others do not speak, some hang up because there is a war going on. Putin and television have convinced them.

On this date, more than 42,129 people were deported from Latvia to Siberia. In great secrecy, 31 trains with cattle cars were sent out in a single day. The deportations of 1949 were, in a sense, even more cruel than those of 1941, as one in four of those deported for life was a child, and one in six was over 60 years old. The film "The Distant Land of Siberia. Why March 25, 1949?" will tell about the reasons for the deportations and show the places of exile in Siberia. People who were deported as children will share their memories.

The documentary "Childhood Land Siberia" continues the series of films about the deportations to Siberia, commited by the Soviet Union as part of an ethnic cleansing in its occupied lands in 1941. Some of the surviving children who were deported, now seniors, wish to visit the lands of their childhood in Siberia. They have experienced the cold and famine and have lost their families there, but it was their only childhood, with sun and snow, friends and people who helped them survive. What is it like there now? Does anyone remember them there?

The hero of the film is Vasily Zavyalov, a Siberian, the headmaster of the school in Turgus, where he was born and grew up. We have an army and a pedagogical institute behind us. The rural communists respect him and elect him secretary of the district party committee...

On June 14, 1941, more than 15,000 Latvian inhabitants, including approximately 4,000 children of Latvian, Jewish, Polish and Russian ethnicity were deported to Siberia. During this period of deportation by the Soviet invaders, the men were separated from their families and sent to the Gulag. Some were sentenced to the highest punishment, death, and the rest were kept in labor camps. The women and children were sent to the remote Krasnoyarsk and Tomsk districts. The first two years were the most difficult and many perished from the harsh conditions. Today some 400 of those deported children still live in Latvia and Siberia. This documentary describes the fate of these children.

The year 2011 marked the 70th anniversary of the deportations of June 14 1941, when 15 425 residents of Latvia (Latvians, Jews, Russians, Poles) were deported to Siberia. Among them there were 3 751 children aged up to 16. During the process men were separated from their families and sent to gulags, where many were sentenced to death, while others were imprisoned in labour camps. The facts of history and dry and few, but many of the victims and their children and grandchildren are still among us. During the summer of 2010, people who were deported to Siberia in 1941 as children joined their own children and a video production crew to travel back to the far North of Russia.

Dramatic, lyrical and production problems in the life of village people.

The life of man is poor and nasty. A few plants give temporary relief: marijuana, alcohol, and opium. After a history of opium, including the 19th-century Opium Wars, we learn of the discovery of heroin; the rest of the film examines heroin trade and addiction in the U.S. Two tons a year enter the U.S., with only 100 pounds interdicted. Most is used in New York City. Interviews with customs officials, prosecutors, medical doctors and junkies provide points of view. The harsh 1956 law and the medically-oriented law of 1966 are contrasted, with the film on the side of treatment and rehabilitation. It ends with advocating reducing use here and finding other cash crops for farmers abroad.
